The Zygon Who Fell To Earth

Tonight, the sixth episode of the second series of the new eighth Doctor audios will be broadcast on BBC Radio 7. The episode is called The Zygon Who Fell To Earth, is written by Paul Magrs and is directed by Barnaby Edwards. The Doctor is played by Paul McGann, with companion Lucie Miller, played by Sheridan Smith. Other guest stars include Steven Pacey, Malcolm Stoddard, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Lynsey Hardwick and Katarina Olsson. You can view the synopsis below;

Ten years later and Aunty Pat is in her prime. She's snagged herself an ex rock star at the Kendal Folk Festival and now, in the brave new world of the early 1980s they manage together a snazzy hotel on the poetic and shingly shore of Lake Grasmere. However, still waters run deep and friends from the past are returning, intent on milking the old cash-cow...

It will air at six o'clock tonight on BBC Radio 7, and the next story will be Sisters of the Flame, broadcast at the same time next Sunday. The story is also out now on CD at the RRP price of £10.99. Surviving an Interview

The Daily Telegraph yesterday posted an interview with Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones in two series of Doctor Who, and also three episodes of Torchwood. You can read the interview on The Daily Telegraph website here, and they talk about many things related to Doctor Who and her new role in Survivors (see lower down). They also talk about her role in Little Dorrit that is on television at the moment, on BBC One. Below you can read a short snippet;

Survivors’ dystopian world sounds much more frightening than even the scariest scenarios in Doctor Who. “Doctor Who was a good warm-up,” Agyeman says. “You’d be running around on the edge of cliff, chased by someone holding a fake monster on the end of stick. At first you would feel silly, but you quickly learn to go for it, to feel the terror of the moment. In Survivors, although it is much more serious, I tried to imagine the loss and loneliness Jenny is feeling in that moment.”

Starring Freema, Survivors starts tonight on BBC One for a six part run. It is on from 9:30pm to 10pm, and she plays a teacher called Jenny Collins. The programme is a remake of the original that was broadcast back in 1975-77. The first series was created by Terry Nation, who also wrote many episodes of Doctor Who in the Classic Series, and he also created the Daleks! Will you watch Survivors tonight?

45 Years of Time Travel

Think back... forty-five years ago... not a special date to people of the time... but the birth of a legend... a Time Lord... from the planet Gallifrey... a man... called... the Doctor...

We're only five years away from the big 50, but 45 seems to also be a big number. On this day, as you might have guessed, forty-five years ago, the first ever episode of Doctor Who broadcast on television, with the story 'An Unearthly Child'. How many of you viewing this site now were alive then, sitting down to watch this strange show, just after 5:15pm on the 23rd November in the year 1963? Does that seem a long time ago? Or feel like no time at all? Then back to now, in 2008. The last full episode we have watched is Journey's End that received a fantastic number of viewers, hit the number one spot on television for that week, and the whole show is more popular than it has ever been! Doesn't this make you proud of the show we are now part of in some way? Well, it should!

Since 1963, we have seen 10 Doctors, 9 regenerations, 202 stories, scary and tremendously designed monsters, companions come and go, so much excitement, too much to write, and of course, the Doctor's Tardis. Along with the show itself, the Tardis appeared in the first episode, and has been in most since (or mentioned). Sometimes, though, the 3rd Doctor had to go without it while he was stuck on Earth. The exterior has mostly stayed the same, but the interior (bigger on the inside, in case you hadn't noticed) has changed a lot. Now with a 'coral' layout, it looks amazing. The Doctor has been played by ten actors at the moment. They are William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. They have all had their own different personalities.

Doctor Who hardly stopped on television up until 1989, when after the first seven Doctors, the show just suddenly stopped. many people thought from then on, there would be nothing. They thought that it was the end of Doctor Who, but they were very wrong. Well, they were right up until 2005, as the TV Movie in 1996 wasn't really a proper Doctor Who 'on tv' show. It was just one night, made by America, with a completely new Doctor and companion, and then nothing happened at the end of that. In the early 2000s there were rumours about the show returning with a head-writer called Russell T. Davies, who had previously written Queer as Folk. Yeah yeah, good joke... In fact it wasn't! The series was confirmed later to be returning in 2005, but nobody really knew what to expect. For once, no wobbly sets, some very professional acting and loads of money poured into the show. Many people thought it was only going to last a year, but then Series 2 came and went, then Series 3 and now Series 4, and now it's the best programme ever (in a Whovian's mind)!

I don't really know what else to put. I haven't had enough time to think about something really special for this post, but go and do something fun today!

45 Years - What Will You Do?

As the time to celebrate forty-five years of Doctor Who is so very close away (Sunday), we would like to know if you will be doing anything special or something for this important date for Doctor Who. We would really like to know, as I'm sure many people may be doing a few different sort of things on Sunday. You might be just dressing up as the Doctor, making monsters, or even devoting your whole day to the show, maybe seeing how many episodes you can fit in on one day! I hop you all have a good time, and there will be a post on Sunday morning about the event. No official events have actually been confirmed, and we'd know about them sooner if there was, so we can guess we have the day to ourselves. Put you thoughts and ideas of what you will be doing in the comments, and you may be mentioned on the post on Sunday!

Einstein and Eddington Today

Today the new BBC film will be airing on BBC Two, named Einstein and Eddington. This is a little bit off the topic of Doctor Who, but there hasn't been a lot of news recently. David Tennant plays the second main role in the story, Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington, and Andy Serkis (who is at this time appearing in Little Dorrit with Freema Agyeman, Eve Myles and Russel Tovey) plays Albert Einstein. The film will be broadcast today at 9:10pm to 10:40pm tonight, therefore being one and a half hours long on BBC Two. It is directed by Philip Martin and written by Peter Moffat. Other stars in Einstein And Eddington include Jim Broadbent, Lucy Cohu, Jodhi May and Rebecca Hall. Below you can read the synopsis of the story;

Albert Einstein (Serkis) spent years working on his General Theory of Relativity, which threatened to overturn two centuries of Newtonian certainty and the foundations of British science. Arthur Eddington (Tennant) was a prominent British astrophysicist who, as a Quaker, believed that "truth knows no boundaries" and bravely championed Einstein’s theories while Britain rejected anything German.
In 1919, Eddington undertook an expedition to Africa to photograph light bending round the sun during an eclipse. These photographs not only proved the theory to be correct, but turned Einstein into a worldwide superstar.

Einstein and Eddington Preview

A new preview for tomorrow's television movie, called Einstein and Eddington has been released on the BBC's Youtube page. David Tennant plays the character of Arthur Eddington in the film, who presently plays the tenth Doctor. It is directed by Philip Martin and written by Peter Moffat. Other stars in Einstein And Eddington include Jim Broadbent, Lucy Cohu, Jodhi May and Rebecca Hall. Dalek Projections - Pictures and Video

I have been very kindly sent pictures and a video of the Dalek Projections that were seen in London and Cardiff recently, mentioned in a post not long ago. Credit goes to the Ministry of Experince, who organised the projections and to 2|Entertain. The pictures show the Supreme Dalek on many buildings around Cardiff and London, and the whole idea of the event was to publicise the release of the Series 4 box set, which was out on Monday. There was writing on the projections saying that it's out now. The video also shows this, but you can see the image moving. So, below you can see the pictures first, and the video at the bottom. Please DO NOT use these pictures or the video without permission from it's owners i.e. Ministry of Experience or 2|Entertain. I will not be to blame if you do. But, enjoy!

Stamp Centre Signing Today

Doctor Who and Torchwood stars will be signing at the Stamp Centre in London today. The Stamp Centre, also known as Sci-Fi Collector is located at 79 Strand in London, and the signing will start at 10am onwards. Actors that will be there include Tom Baker (4th Doctor), Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier), David Troughton (Professor Hobbes and other) and Doug Rollins (Dave in the Torchwood: Sleeper). They will be there with other guests non-Who related. Will you be going to the signing?

Doctor Simm?

Life on Mars star, John Simm has been interviewed lately, and has hinted that he would like to portray the Doctor in the near future. Please note before any further reading that this is just a rumour! Simm played the Master at the end of the third series of Doctor Who, but it is still unknown whether he will come back in that same role of not. There has been much speculation around over the past weeks on who will play the new Doctor, but the BBC is tight-lipped about anything yet. What he said in the interview was;

Has the Beeb asked him to be Doctor Who?
“I'm the Master. Simple as that. I don't want to be Doctor Who. I might be the Master again... I'm not allowed to say.”
Because the Master died in Series Three, this makes it more open for him to tke the role, because the Doctor could regenerate into anyone. But it is still very unlikely that he will. He wants to be known was the Master. Simply that. If he takes the role of the Doctor, it just wouldn't look right or make any sense. To read this interview, click here.
Other new-Doctor rumours state that Paterson Joseph, now star of the new remake of Survivors (with Freema Agyeman), has said that he might quite like to play the role. This started before the Colin Salmon rumour, and Joseph was the first black Doctor to be speculated. There is no reason now why the Doctor can not be black, and with the developing world we live in, this possibility grows ever more likely. He said “His [the Doctor's] parameters are so vast. I don't see why he can't have more regenerations than the 13 that those who know think a Time Lord can have."

Backstage Competition Tour Video

The official Children In Need website have published a video on the behind-the-scenes tour. The tour was the winning result for 100 people who won a competition. Each person was allowed to bring three family members, so overall, there were 400 people there, excluded cast and crew. They went round all the sets like the interior of the Tardis, Torchwood Hub and Sarah Jane's Attic, meeting people like John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Russell T. Davies and others. I am certainly sure that everyone who won and went had an amazing and fantastic time, and I bet many are jealous of them. You can see this video here, and it plays for approximately three minutes, showing parts of the tour, including meeting of monsters and villains like Cybermen, Daleks, Ood, Scarecrows and Hath!
