Captain Jack's Vortex Manipulator

Photobucket
At last, we will be able to buy Captain Jack's trusty gadget, after seeing it so many times, and wanting a toy just like it. The gadget featured on Jack's wrist since Series 1, from The Empty Child to Journey's End, and many episodes of Torchwood also. Forbidden Planet have now revealed an image and released information about the upcoming piece of merchandise. You can view the picture of it to the right, and also, with the toy, it actually includes a mini Sonic Screwdriver. The screwdriver looks slightly different to previous versions released before, and the centre part looks darker, like the original prop. The head of it also glows blue, probably powered when a button is pressed, but we do not know yet whether it has any kind of sound effects. The Vortex manipulator also has features. It lights up in one place, blue, has an adjustable strap and removable cover. We do not know yet what material it is made of. The original prop was leather, but I doubt tht this will be, as it is only a children's toy. It is due for release on Friday the 30th of January, at the RRP price of £14.99.

New Cybemen Figures

Photobucket
Character Options have released pictures and information about a new wave of Cyberman figures, that cover both the Classic Series and the New Series. There are 5 figures in total, but one of them you have to find parts for in each of the other four items, and they come with them. Below you can read the list of the different Cybermen in the new wave;
  • Cyberman from “The Tenth Planet”
  • Cyberman with two Cybermats from “The Tomb of the Cybermen”
  • Cyberman with gun accessory from “The Invasion”
  • Cyber Leader from "The Next Doctor"
  • The figure you are able to build is the Cyber Controller, the version which appeared in "Tomb of the Cybermen"
They did the same thing with the collect and build idea with the first wave of Classic figures, building up to become the K1 Robot, from "Robot". These figures will be released on the 30th of January at the RRP price of £7.99 each.

Cyber Leader Voice Changer

Photobucket
Before, you could turn yourself into a simple Cyberman, then you were able to upgrade to the Cyber Controller, become Dalek Sec Hybrid, turn into its true form with Dalek Sec, become a normal Dalek, and then show your true colours with the Supreme Dalek, but now, with this new helmet, you can become the Cyber Leader! This version of the Cyber Leader appears in this year's Christmas special, The Next Doctor (broadcast on Christmas Day), and so is already quite early for a picture to be released of the product. The new-look Cyber Leader differs from previous ones seen in The Age of Steel, Army of Ghosts and Doomsday, because most of the front, and mor of the top is black. Before, just the handles were. There are different setting for use. You can just use it as a normal voice changer or pree a button and hear phrases that should be heard in The Next Doctor, spoken by the metal fiend. There may be a sound effects button as well, like there was on the Cyberman one reviously released. There is no price or release date for the item, but it is rumoured to be put first on sale at the very end of this month, the 31st December. The Cyber King will also feature in the special, so do you think we might get a helmet for that too? You can view the full picture of the helmet here.

Journal of Impossible Things

Photobucket
As reported not long ago, a new product will be released soon, that is the Journal of Impossible Things. The book featured in the two-parter of Series 3, Human Nature and The Family of Blood. Forbidden Planet have now revealed the cover and released information about the upcoming piece of merchandise. You can view the picture of it to the right, and also, with the Journal, it actually includes a mini Sonic Screwdriver. The screwdriver looks slightly different to previous versions released before, and the centre part looks darker, like the original prop. The head of it also glows blue, probably powered when a button is pressed, but we do not know yet whether it has any kind of sound effects. The book looks amazing. It is A5 sized, and has many, many pages with complete detail and pictures, and looks exactly like the real thing. It looks as if the cover may be made of leather, but this is still unconfirmed. There are blank pages also included, and you are able to use the Sonic Screwdriver (which is actually a pen as well), to write on these pages. It is due for release on Friday the 30th of January, at the RRP price of £9.99, which is actually a very good price, considering the content.

Time Squad

One of the new things Character Options are bringing out next year are the new 'Time Squad' figures. They are figures of the normal friends and enemies there have been in the new series, but these are a bit different. Instead of them trying to look exactly like the real thing (but in small form), they are designed in a very much cartoony way. This makes them look as if a stylish artist has drawn them, and they certainly do look different! And not in a bad way. They are slightly squashed, so their middle section is shorter. This is shown with a Dalek. There are normally quite a few  sense spheres on the bottom, but these new figures have only two. These are very creative and inventive items that Character are bringing out, and they should work well. At the moment, fifteen figures have been confirmed, and they are the Doctor, Davros, a Dalek, the Supreme Dalek, Dalek Sec, a Cyberman, a Weeping Angel, a Clockwork robot, a Sycorax, a Sontaran, a Pyrovile, a Slitheen, an Ood, a Scarecrow and Vashta Nerada. These are due to be released in the UK and Ireland next month, January, and sold in packs of two or five. They would be too small for one each, and a waste of packaging. No price has been decided, but we'll keep you updated. You can see the first picture of the new set above, thanks to Doctor Who Toys.

Character Options Plans For 2009

Character Options has released information about the new items they will be making next year. There isn't a series next year, which means they will be doing extra special gadgets and products to go on sale for 2009. Character have been the loyal companion for Doctor Who since 2005, and has made many highly detailed figures and objects, so you can relive all those favourite Doctor Who scenes, or make your own. It is unknown if they will be continuing the trend in 2010, but it is highly likely that they will. Below you can read what the have said;
A £16m brand for Character and its leading product line. With no Doctor Who series on TV in 2009, the firm has tempered expectations for the range, expecting a drop of just over ten per cent. The franchise will be kept warm with four specials during 2009.

“With Doctor Who, if it’s new it sells well,” says Healy.

Products include a series of figures which come with one component to make up the iconic Giant Robot. Also new is the Time Squad, a more ‘cartoony’ range of figures which are being released in January in packs of two and five.

The Cyberman electronic voice changer will top many Christmas lists and there’s also gadgets such as the Journal of Impossible Things with a mini-sonic screwdriver and a futuristic version of the sonic screwdriver. Captain Jack’s Temporal Manipulator is also new to the range.

“We’ve got lots of low-priced items,” says Healy. “Nothing above £15. And as the specials come out throughout the year we will release new items. Now, the strategy is about freshness and newness in the range. And based on the reaction from the trade, we think it will be solid.”
Not long ago, they produced the second wave of Series 4 figures, and are now on sale. We will keep you informed as to other products and more details when we get it.

River Song's Sonic Screwdriver

Character Options, the makers of usual Doctor Who toys, have confirmed that next year will see the release of a toy version of River Song's Sonic Screwdriver. The other screwdriver was first, and most recently seen in the Silence in the Library two-parter, broadcast this year as part of the fourth series. Two previous sonics to have been released in toy-form have been the usual Doctor's (which there were a couple of different versions over the years) and the Master's, which was his 'Laser Screwdriver'. We don't know anything about how the item functions yet, as we only have a picture, but there should be many different new features, like the red settings, shown in the picture. From this picture, we can make out that it does look very similar to the genuine prop, which is satisfying. It has been said that the item will go on sale in January next year, at the RRP price of £14.99.

Torchwood Wave 1 Figures - Packaging

Pictures of the packaging, thanks to SciFi Collector, for the new Torchwood figures has now been released. The first wave, which these pictures are of, consist of the figures Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Cyberwoman and a Weevil. Note that a packaging picture for Captain Jack has not yet been released. The packaging is quite different from the Doctor Who ones, and is mostly in a yellow colour, and has a picture of the character in the bottom left. The actual figure is in the middle and in blister packaging. The Torchwood logo is spread across the top with 'Poseable Action Figures' written underneath. The 'T' logo is also on it, in the middle. The figures are highly detailed, just like the Doctor Who ones, and are fully articulated. The pictures of all the figures can be seen here, on their website. What do you think?

The Master's Fob Watch Limited Edition

Sci-Fi Collector have recently released information on a new, very special product. Released at the end of last year, was the Doctor's Fob Watch, made of plastic, with a few light and sound effects. But now, an even better version is due to be released, and it's not really a children's toy, this one. It is made of metal, with detailed engravings on the front case. It is a fully functional watch, and is said to be very much a collector's item. But there aren't that many of them, so you are going to have to be quick; it is a limited edition, with only 2500 made, with each watch with it's own unique number, which will make it rare and expensive in the future. Not only that, but each one will include with it a certificate, personally signed by the Master himself, featured in Utopia, Derek Jacobi! In the episode, he regenerated into John Simm, after having realized that he was not Professor Yana at all! At the moment, each one costs £69.99 each, post free, but is unlikely to go down. You can find out more and buy it here!

Be The Supreme Dalek!

With the new Supreme Dalek Voice Changer Helmet! Previously there have been releases of the standard bronze Dalek head, that was out quite a while ago. The Dalek Sec one was released a couple of months ago, exclusive to Toys R Us, but this new one has now been confirmed. The Red Supreme Dalek featured in the finale of Series 4, comprised of the episodes The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. It had high superiority and was the leader of all the Daleks on board the Crucible. Davros created him from cells in his own flesh. You can see the first picture of the Voice Changer Helmet to the left. Also, apart from the voice changer, the helmet features classic quotations made by the Supreme Dalek from the end of last season, with lights as well. It is believed that the helmet is already out, but where you can find it is another matter. It has an RRP price of £39.99, just like previous ones before it.

This new one is for the latest set, Series 4, and includes many of the Doctor's friends and enemies from the latest series. Plush Adipose - Release Date and Price

The picture above was made by me

The release date and the price for the upcoming Plush Adipose has now been revealed. There is also a new picture of it, as you can see above, which is slightly different to the one we have seen before. It looks less cute, thinner and does not have the pointed tooth anymore. This is a slight disappointment. Smaller plastic Adipose were released earlier this year, as part of the first Wave of Series 4 figures. A few of them came in a pack with the Doctor. You can view the press release below;
The fat chomping Adipose appeared in Partners in Crime, the first episode of Doctor Who series four and now they're here as this uber cute plush from Character Options! They're seeding Earth, as weight-loss pills, and The Doctor needs you to take one of the little devils off his hands!
The Adipose is a manufactured product from Character Options, and will be released on 22nd October 2008, at the RRP price of £9.99. You can buy it for cheaper, at £8.99 here! Will you be buying the Adipose later this month?

Top Trumps On The Wii

After the Doctor Who Top Trumps game becoming electronic, being able to now play it on the Playstation, PC and other consoles, the game will be coming out in December on the Wii! The Wii is one of the most popular (and expensive) game consoles you can get, and is also arguably th most fun. This is a great move to make, but unfortunately, the game will be more expensive than on the other consoles. The box has a different cover to the others, and now features the Doctor in the Tardis, the cover of the latest Top Trumps set, released by Winning Moves. You can see the cover above. The age rating is 3+, so sorry all of you under three year olds, that can actually read this site, but you can't play it. Too much violence! The game is due for release on 5th December 2008, at the RRP price of £29.99! What do you think of this news?

18" Red Supreme r/c Dalek at Tesco!

Tesco are now selling the Red Supreme Dalek radio-controlled toy, as an exclusive 18 inch figure! The Supreme Dalek appeared in the Series Four finale, in June/July, with Davros, but was blown up by Captain Jack. A 12 inch radio-controlled figure was originally released, but Tesco have their unique version. Although 18 inch Voice Interactive Daleks have been released, this is not, but exactly the same as the 12 inch, just a bit bigger! You will only be able to find these at Tesco, and at the moment, they are quite rare, so you won't be able to find them at every Tesco store you might run into. But if you are lucky enough, you will have to pay the price of £49.99, so you can keep it. The nice till workers may ask, 'Are you a fan of Doctor Who, then?', or some younger ones might just look awkwardly at you! If they're nice enough you might be able to use a credit card, and get points put onto your club card (which will be 49 points!). Don't forget your re-usuable bag to save the environment, to cut down on global warming! And as for the picture in this post!!! I just hate those kind of pictures. "Oh yay, I've got an orange spot underneath me, and I can't stop smiling because I'm having so much fun with this toy! I'm the first child to use one! Yippee..." and so on. But enough of my ramble to fill the space. Will you get the exclusive 18 inch blood-red, ruthless killer?

Short News

This is the first post where there will be brief news to talk about that might be of intrest, but is pointless having a full post for it.

2009 Pocket Diary  - Released
The 2009 pocket diary was released today at the RRP price of £4.99! This is a follow on from past diaries out every year! Times Russell T. Davies SJA Interview
A new interview with Russell T. Davies has been posted on Times Online, talking about Davies' views on The Sarah Jane Adventures;
How dark can it get?
"Kids love dark. I think it’s only adults watching who worry about that. Harry Potter gets as dark as hell in some places. All the great fairytales and myths are full of loss and longing. You’re an idiot if you remember childhood as just laughing, running about and having a good time. But I think it’s a job of good children’s drama to include the full range of emotions, which also includes happiness."

You can read the full interview here!

Earl's Court Exhibition - Super Davros Top Trumps Card
The Earl's Court Exhibition in London are giving away Super Davros Top Trumps cards away with entry. The cards can be used in the classic series set, and originally came in the fourth volume of Series 4 DVD.
