What Will We Learn From The Box-Set Commentaries?

On the fabulous website, Den of Geek, they have posted an article showing some of the facts that we can learn about from the commentaries on the new Series 4 Box-Set, that is due out in November. So here it is!

ON THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL...

• The phrase "cache of info-stamps" is said.
  
• There's a character called Aubrey Fairchild who meets a "terrible death".
  
• The Hub set, from spin-off series Torchwood, has been 'trashed' and used for filming in the special.
  

ON THE FUTURE...

• David Tennant refers to Steven Moffat as his "new boss", and their discussion indicates that they are already working together.
  
• The written (but not filmed) 'Shadow Proclamation' scene in The Stolen Earth, featuring monsters from throughout the series, has been requested by David to appear in one of the specials.
  

ON THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES...

• The production team couldn't find an actor short enough for Kaagh in The Last Sontaran so they had to make a new costume - thereby upping the cost of the episode.
  
• The actor who played the milkman from Journey's End is to appear in an upcoming episode.
  
• Catherine Tate wants a part (but not as Donna Noble), as her daughter loves the show.
  
• David Tennant wants to be the voice of 'Mr. Smith'.
  
• David Tennant was to appear in the opening episode (in a sub-plot which would explain why K9 was not to appear in the show) but, at the time of recording the commentary, this idea was binned. Julie Gardener states "it could still happen".
  

AND FINALLY...

• When asked if River Song is The Doctor's wife, Steven Moffat says "it's more complicated than that"
  
• RTD reveals that Harriet Jones died in The Stolen Earth despite Phil Collinson's protestations that she lived.

That shows the deleted scene of when the 'real' Doctor leaves the other Doctor and Rose a piece of the Tardis, so they can grow their own in the parallel world, but was scrapped when the producers said it didn't fit the episode, and that it was a bit over the top.

Secrets of the Stars - Synopsis

The synopsis for one of the stories of the second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures has been released today. It is the third story this series, entitled Secrets of the Stars, and follows the latest episode, The Day of the Clown. The first part of it will first air on the CBBC channel on 20th October at 5:15pm, and then it will properly start on BBC One on 27th at 4:35pm. You can view this synopsis below;

Sarah Jane and the gang embark on another exciting new adventure this week as the children's drama series, produced by Russell T Davies, continues.

Astrologer Martin Trueman causes a stir with his uncanny insights and predictions. While Sarah Jane doesn't believe in astrology, she does believe that all is not as it seems with Trueman. Around her, people are falling under Trueman's sinister spell and even Mr Smith doesn't understand what's going on.

Sarah Jane is played by Elisabeth Sladen, Martin Trueman by Russ Abbot and Mr Smith by Alexander Armstrong.

In other news, Tommy Knight (Luke Smith), Daniel Anthony (Clyde Langer) and Anjli Mohindra (Rani Chnadra) appeared on an episode of Blue Peter today, taking part in the boys vs girls challenge. You can read more about this story here, on Doctor Who Mad Online, or view the episode here, on iPlayer!

The Last Sontaran Part 2 - Ratings

The overnight ratings for the second part of The Sarah Jane Adventures story, The Last Sontaran, have now been released. The episode, broadcast on Monday at 4:35pm on BBC One, gained an audience of 0.6 million, with a 6.1% share of the audience. This rating has dropped from last week, that received 0.7 million. This is thought to be because the episode had already aired on CBBC the week beforehand, and so people might have watched that, and not watched it again. On a lighter note, the Appreciation Index for the episode was 86, which is fantastic! It was highest figure on BBC1 for the day! The final BARB rating will follow shortly, which will have a higher figure.

Torchwood Magazine 10

The Torchwood Magazine's Facebook Site have released the cover and some information regarding the tenth issue of the magazine all about Torchwood. There's all the latest Children Of Earth news, The History of Torchwood, a John Barrownan Interview and a Day One episode guide. You can see the cover to the left and here is some information about the issue;

 - Children Of Earth: The Latest - Torchwood magazine continues to provide all the latest news from the set of Torchwood: Children of Earth. Casting details are coming thick and fast – following an announcement from the BBC last month, more names are exclusively revealed in this issue. Meanwhile, 18 days into shooting, producer Peter Bennett told Torchwood Magazine that he “couldn’t be happier with the results.” He added, “The story’s both epic and intimate, and sees the Torchwood team and their new allies facing a threat the like of which no one has seen before."  - Episode Guide: Day One - We continue our detailed look at series one of Torchwood with an analysis of the second ever episode, Day One, first aired on BBC Three in October 2006. Originally entitled New Girl, the episode saw Gwen enduring a none-too successful first day at Torchwood.

Farewell, Old Hub!

New set reports and images have been released from fans watching the new series for Torchwood filming in Cardiff. Lately, a strange rectangular object has been lurking around in the middle of Cardiff Bay, and many fans thought, and maybe hoped, might have something to do with the destruction of the Torchwood Hub, following rumours that this might be true. As the days went on, they started to put lots of objects and various different materials on top of it, now we know, to look like the whole of the Hub had been blown apart, with the ground bursting open with rubbish. From where you could see, it didn't look much like it had, as it was just some starnge, random thing in the middle of the bay. The picture on the right of the picture above hopefully shows what you will see on screen, and looks spectacular. This series really is looking promising! This is thought to happen nearer the end of the story, but does this look like the end of Torchwood. It looks even more likely when we here that John Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack, isn't present on the scene. People who were seen were Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones) who had got a cut on his cheek. Little is known about what will happen in the story, but it looks great!

Children In Need Competition - Now Closed

The phone lines for the Children In Need once-in-a-lifetime trip are now closed, so don't call the number, as you won't be able to enter, but might still be charged. The competition will let one hundred lucky winners go behind the scenes of Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures with their family, and even let them step into the real Tardis, the Torchwood Hub and Sarah Jane's attic! The competition was opened by Chris Moyles on his show on 26 September 2008, which he was hosting in the Tardis. It included interviews with Russell T. Davies, David Tennant and Billie Piper. Interview - Velile Tshabalala

A new interview is up on the West Sussex Gazette website, with Velile Tshabalala talking about the upcoming Christmas Special for this year. She plays the character of Rosita in the The Next Doctor. There are a few things you may not want to see below if you hate spoilers, so beware!

"A lot of people have been saying that it hasn't yet been decided who the next assistant will be. But obviously I would love to do more. At the moment I am just being positive about it, that I did it and that I had a great time. But I would love to be in it again if I can."

"The Doctor is faced with another Doctor. Rosita is the assistant to the other Doctor but as the episode goes on she starts helping the Doctor we know. A lot of the time you were acting with nothing in front of you. They put all the monsters and creatures in later. We were doing a lot with green screen. That was a real challenge to act scared when there is nothing there!"

On the Guardian website, they are holding a poll on which you can vote on whether you like old Who (before Christopher Eccleston) or new Who (2005 onwards). Here is what each side is up against;
