Midnight Sounds Good

Photobucket
The Doctor Who episode 'Midnight', reported earlier, had been nominated for an award for Best Sound from a drama at this year's RTS (Royal Television Society) Craft and Design Awards. It was, this year, the only category Doctor Who had been nominated in, rather than more than one in previous years. But the very good news now is that it won the award! It is true that the music heard in Midnight was amazing, and terribly spooky. If you want to hear the music, it is included on this year's soundtrack, filled with twenty-seven tracks of the Doctor's latest adventures. But I think it was mostly the small sounds heard, made by the Sounds Department of the Who studios. Julie Gardner was talking to Doctor Who Magazine about the win;

"We're all so proud that the magnificent work of the Sound Department has been recognised at last. This episode pushed them right to the limit, using techniques that simply won't be called for on many other dramas, and it's wonderful to see their work being recognised by their peers. And I have to say, it's probably a unique event, for a drama recorded in basically one small room, to win an award for the quality of it's sound. That department does brilliant work on every single episode, and it's about time they were honoured! And out thanks and congratulations to the director of that episode. Alice Troughton, who worked so closely with the sound team, as well as the cast, who gave everything to make the story work."

A Few Noble Scenes

The Series 4 Box Set which was out on Monday contains a few deleted scenes, at various times throughout the series. There were two scenes that were deleted from Partners In Crime, and now with the new DVD, we can see them! So, below you can watch these. They are the same scenes that were on the DVD, with Bernard Cribbins, but originally Howard Attfield was to reprise the role of Donna's father, Geoff Noble, but sadly he was too unwell after these scenes to carry on with the part. After this, not too long after, Howard passed away. He played the same part in The Runaway Bride, an was going to do the whole of Series 4. When they decided he could not do it any longer, they had a great idea. Put Bernard Cribbins' role, Wilfred Mott, in as her grandfather! And so, it happened. Before the scenes, it has a little introduction with head writer, Russell T. Davies, which tells you more on the matter. So, the Geoff Noble Scenes...

The Scenes Come Buzzing Back!

The Series 4 Box Set which was out on Monday contains a few deleted scenes, at various times throughout the series. There were two scenes that were deleted from The Unicorn and the Wasp, and now with the new DVD, we can see them! So, below you can watch these. The first is from the start of the episode, in the future, when Agatha Christie was an old lady. She talks about trying to remember what happened with flashbacks. The second scene is from the end of the episode, when the Doctor and Donna go back to visit the old Agatha Christie. She remembers them, and they show her the book 'Death in the Clouds', which she wrote, published in the year five billion. These are really nice clips, which i think should have been included. Please note that these are not the complete originals from the box set. They have been slightly edited with music and sorts to make it look better, but it's still the same scenes. So, enjoy these clips below;

Dalek Projections - Pictures and Video

I have been very kindly sent pictures and a video of the Dalek Projections that were seen in London and Cardiff recently, mentioned in a post not long ago. Credit goes to the Ministry of Experince, who organised the projections and to 2|Entertain. The pictures show the Supreme Dalek on many buildings around Cardiff and London, and the whole idea of the event was to publicise the release of the Series 4 box set, which was out on Monday. There was writing on the projections saying that it's out now. The video also shows this, but you can see the image moving. So, below you can see the pictures first, and the video at the bottom. Please DO NOT use these pictures or the video without permission from it's owners i.e. Ministry of Experience or 2|Entertain. I will not be to blame if you do. But, enjoy!

RTS Nomination

Doctor Who has been nominated for an award for Best Sound from a drama at this year's RTS (Royal Television Society) Craft and Design Awards. The nomination is Midnight, but that is th only category the programme has been nominated for. Last year there were more, but it's still good to have something. It is true that the music heard in Midnight was amazing, and terribly spooky. If you want to hear the music, it is included on this year's soundtrack, filled with twenty-seven tracks of the Doctor's latest adventures. The ceremony takes place at the Intercontinental Hotel on Park Lane in London, on the date of the 24th November this year. To visit the official website, and download a document of all the nominees, click here!

The Scenes of a Journey Past

The Series 4 Box Set which was out on Monday contains a few deleted scenes, at various times throughout the series. There were two scenes that were deleted in Journey's End, and now with the new DVD, we can see them! So, below you can watch these. The first is from the Bad Wolf Bay scene at the end of the episode with The two Doctors, Donna and Rose. This was reported earlier, and has the part where the proper Doctor hands a 'chunk of Tardis', so that Rose and the duplicate Doctor can grow their won in the parallel world. The secodn scene has also been reported earlier, and is a slightly alternate ending to the episode. What is different about it is that Donna hears the sound of the Tardis when she is on the phone and Cybermen come up behind the Doctor in the Tardis. Enjoy these clips below;

Series 4 Box Set - Released

The Series 4 Box Set DVD has been released today. It contains all the episodes of the fourth series, including Voyage of the Damned and Time Crash, but not Music of the Spheres, that was shown at the Doctor Who Prom in July. The DVD is also loaded with special features, but not as many as last year or the year before. Apparently the cover for it is not so boring as it seems. It will catch your eye with the vortex and has a bumpy Davros picture on the back. This is just the sleeve and then inside there will be another two sides of the Doctor and his companions. Two parts inside that open to give you the sections where the DVDs are contained. It is on sale now at the RRP price of £69.99, but should have a lower price in most shops.

The Music is Downloadable Now!

Silva Screen Records have released the Series 4 Soundtrack on their website! It is avaliable to download at 79p a track (mp3), and the whole album for £7.99. If you want to get the music earlier this would be a great opportunity, but if you wanted the real CD as well, it would be a bit of a waste of money! So I would suggest if you want to have the music, only buy a very small number of your favourites! Others of you might just get this, and not the real CD when it comes out on 17th November this year, but that's your choice! I've downloaded some of my favourites, including Song of Freedom and a few others like The Rueful Fate of Donna Noble. From what I've heard already, it sounds amazing! You can pre-order the CD on the Silva Screen Website via here for £9.99 post free, or you can order it on Amazon here for £8.99! You cannot download this on iTunes at this stage. If you pre-order the whole CD to come to your door, then the great thing is it will come on the day of release or earlier! I'm not lying, as when i got my Torchwood Soundtrack, released in November, it came three days early! What will you do?

Inside The Australian Box Set...

The ABC website has now released a picture of the cover and inside of the Australian box-set including and a bit of information. The UK's interior has not yet been released in a picture, but you can see this American one below. It all looks very similar to previous English sets, featuring the cover as a slip case and the main part inside with the DVDs and guide. The cover on one side has the Supreme Dalek, with a background that will be used on the English HMV version. On the other side is a rare Series 4 promaotional picture, with the Doctor, Donna and Captain Jack Harkness. Many might say that these are better covers than the UK version, but we are still yet to find out the 'special feature' rumoured about the cover. The short guide telling you everything you need to know about the discs, has a cover with the Doctor and Donna on, with a Dalek shadow. This is the HMV cover that will be used. There are six discs, and the pictures on those are; a Heavenly Host, an Ood, Sontaran General Staal, a Vashta Nerada (Suit Creature), Davros and the Supreme Dalek. The rating is PG and the box-set costs $99.95, but that's only in Australia. Please note that this version only works on region four DVD players, not those over here. It will be released on 3rd December this year. All special features should be included.

The Scene That Buzzed Away...

Not so long ago, I posted information from Den of Geek about the special features in the Series 4 DVD Box-Set. Now, we have an exclusive picture from one of the deleted scenes featured. The scene was originally cut from the seventh episode of Series 4, The Unicorn and the Wasp, when the Doctor and Donna go back and see Agatha Christie near the end of the episode as an old women, and judging by the picture, looks like she recognises them. It was sad that they did not keep it in, as it looks a great scene, but they took it out, as they didn't need it, but was just an extra that they could have taken out from the finished episode if they wanted. You can see this picture below, and also view the article from Den of Geek here! Also included is a deleted scene from The Doctor's Daughter, but does not show much of what it is.

What Will We Learn From The Box-Set Commentaries?

On the fabulous website, Den of Geek, they have posted an article showing some of the facts that we can learn about from the commentaries on the new Series 4 Box-Set, that is due out in November. So here it is!

ON THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL...
  • The phrase "cache of info-stamps" is said.
  • There's a character called Aubrey Fairchild who meets a "terrible death".
  • The Hub set, from spin-off series Torchwood, has been 'trashed' and used for filming in the special.
ON THE FUTURE...
  • David Tennant refers to Steven Moffat as his "new boss", and their discussion indicates that they are already working together.
  • The written (but not filmed) 'Shadow Proclamation' scene in The Stolen Earth, featuring monsters from throughout the series, has been requested by David to appear in one of the specials.
ON THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES...
  • The production team couldn't find an actor short enough for Kaagh in The Last Sontaran so they had to make a new costume - thereby upping the cost of the episode.
  • The actor who played the milkman from Journey's End is to appear in an upcoming episode.
  • Catherine Tate wants a part (but not as Donna Noble), as her daughter loves the show.
  • David Tennant wants to be the voice of 'Mr. Smith'.
  • David Tennant was to appear in the opening episode (in a sub-plot which would explain why K9 was not to appear in the show) but, at the time of recording the commentary, this idea was binned. Julie Gardener states "it could still happen".
AND FINALLY...
  • When asked if River Song is The Doctor's wife, Steven Moffat says "it's more complicated than that"
  • RTD reveals that Harriet Jones died in The Stolen Earth despite Phil Collinson's protestations that she lived.
There is also this picture;
That shows the deleted scene of when the 'real' Doctor leaves the other Doctor and Rose a piece of the Tardis, so they can grow their own in the parallel world, but was scrapped when the producers said it didn't fit the episode, and that it was a bit over the top.
What do you think? You can read the article on Den of Geek here!
